Director of Technology and Laboratory Services

Job Duties
- Oversee research initiatives to drive innovation in chemical processes, materials, and technologies, including the development of synthetic alternatives to hydrochloric acid.
- Drive the development and production, including chemical formulation and product evaluation, of new commercialized chemical products or improvements to existing ones, considering market demand and competitive landscape.
- Direct the modification of formulations of off-specification chemical products to transform them into salable products.
- Lead the preparation of technical documents, including customer reports, standard operating procedures, certificates of analysis, and technical data sheets.
- Establish and enforce quality-control measures to ensure the production of high-quality chemical products in compliance with ISO 9001, 14001, 17025, and 45001 and NSF 60.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety certifications and environmental regulations.
- Develop and manage departmental budget to ensure efficient resource allocation and cost control.
- Collaborate with sales, marketing, and customer service management to support business initiatives, align chemical products to market demands, and ensure seamless integration of chemical processes within the overall business strategy.
- Ensure functionality, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment, including viscometers, Karl Fisher titrators, pH meters, digital burettes, and HPHT autoclaves, and evaluate and propose purchase of new processes, lab resources, equipment, software, and instrumentation.
- Continuously evaluate and improve chemical-manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact.
- Assess relevance and propose adoption of technological advancements in the chemical industry.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with chemical processes, including chemical safety and handling hazards.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for chemical-related incidents to ensure safety of personnel and compliance with regulations.
- Lead and manage a team of chemists, lab technicians, and other professionals, including hiring, training, scheduling, delegating assignments, and evaluating performance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field.
- 8 years of chemical-laboratory experience, 2 years of which involve managing and training a team of chemical technicians.
- Experience with developing synthetic alternatives to hydrochloric or other acids.
- Experience with modifying formulations of off-specification chemical products to transform them into salable products.
- Experience with ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001.
- Experience with NSF 60.
- Experience with operating and maintaining analytical instruments, including viscometers, Karl Fisher titrators, pH meters, digital burettes, and HPHT autoclaves.
- Experience with the development and production of commercialized chemical products, including chemical formulations and product evaluation.
- Experience with preparing technical documents, including customer reports, standard operating procedures, certificates of analysis, and technical data sheets.
- Experience with directly supporting commercial teams in driving new business initiatives.
